What the dog actually costs, and when the tick prevention is due.
Vet visits, food and insurance add up into one number by themselves — and the reminders suit Australian conditions, not a northern-hemisphere calendar.
What it does
Everything Pets gives you.
Weight, vet visits, medications, microchip and registration, per animal.
Tick prevention defaults to year-round in NSW and Queensland, because it is.
Cost per animal, with a $40 monthly treatment shown as the $480 a year it is.
Shared with whoever else feeds them — the household already exists.
What it costs
Things you'd normally pay for. Here they're just included.
| Feature | Usually costs | In Nexus |
|---|---|---|
| Pet health records and reminders | Commonly free with advertisements, or a paid tier | Free, no ads |
| Spend tracked per animal | Rarely offered at all | Free |
Animal Medicines Australia’s 2025 figures put the average dog household at $2,520 a year. 26% name ongoing cost as the main barrier to owning a pet, and 12% have needed financial help for vet care. That is why a cost rollup matters.
Only what you want
Use it as just a pet record.
Nexus asks which parts you want when you sign up, and you can change your mind whenever you like. Turn everything else off and this is the whole app — the menu, the home screen, the quick-add button. Nothing you did not ask for is on screen.
Turn something back on a year later and it is waiting, with whatever you had already put in it. Hiding is not deleting. Two dogs and nothing else switched on is a perfectly sensible way to use it.
If you want more
What Pets can do that a single-purpose app can’t.
The pet’s costs are in your budget already. The vet bill sits next to the mortgage, because the same account holds both.
Worming and vaccinations are on the family calendar so whoever is home that day can do it.
The kennel booking sits with the holiday.
Feeding is a household chore in the same rotation as everything else.
What you get, and what it costs
Nexus is free. Not free-for-now, and not free-until-you-need-the-good-bit — nothing you already have is ever moved behind a payment. You can export everything you put in, from every module, whenever you like.
It is free for the businesses in the directory too. Nobody pays for a listing, and nobody buys your data.
Read the promisePets is a small module that earns its place by borrowing two big ones. That is the whole argument for Nexus in miniature — and you can still run it alone.
